Purpose of the The Service Hymnal "PAST / PRESENT for the FUTURE" The purpose of the hymnal is to teach Lutherans new and old, the rich heritage and traditions that have been handed down through the generations. This will enable the average Lutheran who is interested in knowing about what they are singing to understand where we come from, and why it is important to hold on to. This will enable the younger set to understand that pieces of the liturgy come right out of the bible, and melodies that were written by Lutheran composers have meaning even today. It even may interest children and teenagers that these same melodies were sung by their parents, grandparents, and ancestors. We believe it will enable people new to the Lutheran church have understanding of our rich musical tradition, and the history of these pieces. Many Lutherans old and new do not have an understanding about the liturgy or hymns they sing each week. We feel this hymnal supplement will help them learn and have a better identity of the Lutheran heritage, as well as introduce new material to churches. The hymnal is a retrospective view of the Lutheran heritage, with five settings of liturgy, a vespers service, and over 234 hymns. The hymnal is designed to be used by any Lutheran church body. It is also designed to be rotated with the current hymnbooks and contemporary liturgies out there. The Service Hymnal will provide a fun, meaningful worship book for many years to come! The SERVICE HYMNAL can help in your Lutheran identity and attract new members as well as retain existing ones. Back to The Service Hymnal main page |
